Obituary of Darlene Butler

Darlene Isabel Butler, beloved wife of Gary Butler, of Calgary, slipped away softly on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the age of 65 years. A prairie girl from Sunnynook, AB, Darlene graduated as an R.N. from the University of Alberta Hospital in 1961. While nursing at the Calgary General and Peter Lougheed Centre, she returned to University of Calgary to obtain a B.A. in 1988 and an M.A. in sociology in 1993. She lived her life with calm, composure and grace. Dearly loved by family and friends and respected by colleagues, she was a memorable person who influenced all who knew her. The opportunity to travel allowed her to see some of her wishes come true; from the Russian Steppes, to “David” in Florence, Italy and to the “wine-dark sea” of the Mediterranean with trips to Greece and Turkey. Darlene is survived by Gary, her husband of forty-three years and their three children, Jay (Erin), Shannon (David) and Bryce; three grandchildren, Grayson, Grace “CoCo” and Emma “Magic”; her brothers, David (Martha), Cliff (Monique) and Wayne (Diane); her sister Patsy (Gordon). Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Special thanks to the staff at Unit 51 and Specialty Clinic 1 at the Peter Lougheed Centre; doctors: Kao, Thaell and Lategan as well as staff at the Home and Palliative Care and Agapé Hospice. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
