Obituary of William Burke

William (Bill) Burke of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at the age of 80 years. Bill was born on May 3, 1926 in High River, Alberta, and grew up in the neighbouring communities of Blackie and Turner Valley. In 1944 he joined the Royal Canadian Navy for two years, after which he attended the University of Alberta to earn a Bachelor of Science degree. From 1951 to 1986, Bill worked for Baroid of Canada. After retiring, Bill and his wife Natalia enjoyed traveling the world on several ocean cruises, and cheering the Calgary Stampeders as loyal season’s ticket holders. Bill is survived by his loving wife Natalia (Talka) of fifty years; his children Michael, Donald (Steven), Jane (David) and Neil (Blair); his grandchildren Randall Marie, Duncan and Trent; his sister Patsy (Bill) Manarey, and nieces Margaret Anne, Leigh, Darcy and Carolyn. He is predeceased by his parents Dr. Michael and Cora Burke, and his sister Mary. The Burke family would like to extend their thanks to the staff and volunteers of Agapé Hospice, and to Dr. Falk and Dr. Dowden for the compassionate care they showed to Bill during his illness.
