Obituary of Eileen Sumner

Eileen Sumner of Calgary passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 28, 2006 following a courageous battle with lengthy illnesses at the age of 79 years. Eileen was born on September 18, 1927 in Calgary, AB. She grew up on the North Hill and graduated from Crescent Heights High School. After graduation Eileen became a certified comptometer operator who enjoyed her years of employment with United Grain Growers and Royalite Oil. In 1955, she married James (Jack) Sumner and together they operated Sumner Electric for many years. In 1975 she went to work at the University of Calgary in the accounts payable department where she remained until her retirement in 1981. For many years Eileen was an active member in the Order of the Eastern Star. Many will remember Eileen for the beautiful knitted or crocheted masterpieces she lovingly created. Gardening was one of Eileen’s favourite past times, as well as her love for a scenic drive on a nice day. Eileen will be greatly missed by her children, Janice Sumner of Strathmore and James (Sarah) Sumner of Calgary; her treasured grandchildren, Spencer and Jessica; her sister Evalyn Milley of Largo, FL; her cousin Helen Collins of Calgary; numerous nieces and nephews and her special friends, Barb Leinweber and Stan Goodman.
