Obituary of Gudrun Cook

Gudrun (Goodie) Cook of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the George Boyack Care Center after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, Friday September 22, 2006 at the age of 77 years. Born to immigrant Danish farmers Goodie grew up in Dalum, Alberta. Proud of her Danish heritage she enjoyed Danish conversation, cuisine, and trips to Denmark. She was a member of the Danish Canadian Club for many years. Goodie had a kind, gentle, loving, caring and compassionate nature. She was interested in people, dogs and horses. Over the years she bred, raised and showed Dachshunds. Goodie enjoyed socializing and the coffee pot was always on at the Cook house. She lovingly cared for Stan throughout his lengthy battle with emphysema; she was an excellent nurse! Goodie was an avid reader and yearned for knowledge. She was very proud of her accomplishments and excelled in her studies. A Registered Nurse from the Holy Cross (1951), and a Psychiatric Nurse from Ponoka (1953). Goodie valued the comradery of her Holy Cross nursing classmates celebrating annual reunions for fifty-five years. Goodie obtained a B.A. in Psychology (1977), and refreshed her nursing knowledge and skills in (1979). She then worked in the psychiatric unit at the Foothills Hospital for ten years. Goodie will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Karen Cook, daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Christopher Snow; and her cherished grandchildren Danna (Mike), Sarah, Tori (Rob), Connor and Hunter. She will also be missed by her devoted brother Axel (Sue) Benzon, sister-in-law Gail (Ivan) Benzon, and many nieces and nephews: Jody (Randy) Hingst, Jackie (Dirk) Schmidt, Greg (Wendy) Benzon, Peter (Esther) Elder, Rupert and Kiki Benzon, Garett and Tynesha Hingst, Erik Schmidt, and Lee and Ellis Elder. Goodie was predeceased by her beloved husband of forty-three years Stanley Desmond Cook, her brother Peter Eggert Benzon, and her parents Gunnar and Elisa Benzon.
