Obituary of Gladys Clipperton
Gladys Matilda Clipperton, of Calgary, passed away on September 20, 2006 at the age of 90 years.
Gladys was born in Camrose, AB on July 24, 1916. Gladys married James Clipperton on January 23, 1933. They farmed in the Cold Lake Area during the depression from 1933-1981, she milked cows, and fed the animals while James was away digging water wells and lumbering. Gladys and Jim then moved to Penticton, BC in 1980, Gladys moved to Calgary in 1992 to be closer to her family. She worked at the Cold Lake Air Base for fourteen years. She always had large family gatherings during Christmas and Easter where she loved to cook big suppers. Gladys loved to travel, if she heard that her family was going anywhere her bags were packed and at the door. She traveled to Disney Land, Europe, Honduras, the West Coast and Ontario. Gladys loved to sing, play Bingo and softball.
Gladys is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Donald and Karen Clipperton of Sherwood Park, AB; her two daughters and sons-in-law, Lottie and George Kienitz of High River, AB and Janet and Victor Marchuk of Bonneville, AB; daughter-in-law Shirley Miron of Armstrong, BC; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-three great- grandchildren; four great-great- grandchildren; her sister Evelyn Oppen of Camrose, AB; her three brothers, Sam, Richard and Harland; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Gladys was predeceased by her husband James Eli Clipperton in 1981; four children John Darrel 1944, James William Clipperton 1961, Kenneth Rodger Clipperton 1977 and Coral Ann Ell 2002.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with the Pastor Roy Krahn, Presider. A second Funeral Service will also be held at the Riverhurst Community Hall in Cold Lake, AB on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside service to follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Cold Lake, AB.
