Obituary of Robert Maurice McLennan
Robert (Bob) Maurice McLennan beloved husband of Jackie, of Bragg Creek passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at the age of 73 years.
Bob was born in Calgary on March 15, 1933 and spent his youth visiting Bragg Creek, AB with his parents until moving there permanently in 1955. During the 60’s and 70’s Bob established a reputation of note as a log home builder in the Bragg Creek, Priddis and Millarville areas, being a master woodworker he furnished many of the homes with complementary furniture. In 1977 he, along with his wife Jackie embarked on a labour of love when they started Homestead Antiques in Bragg Creek. For the next twenty-five years, Bob thoroughly enjoyed all phases of the antique business and in particular, his involvement with the movie industry where he was in great demand, as he could recreate or repair almost anything required on the sets. A lifelong appreciation and understanding of nature and his desire to pass this knowledge on to future generations prompted him to help establish the Bragg Creek Junior Forest Wardens in the late 60’s where he remained head supervisor for many years. Bob was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. We love him, we will miss him and he will always be in our hearts.
Besides his loving wife of fifty-four years, Bob will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by six daughters, Lynda (Tom) Galeski, Shelley Thomsen, Sharon (Mark) Kelly, Sue Coy (Lloyd Wilder), Sandra McLennan (John Dahrouge) and Bonnie McLennan. Bob is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Becky Dempsey, Beau and Chris Galeski, Kirsten and Ben Thomsen, Justin Kelly, Lindsay and Allison Coy, Robert, Chantell and Charlene McLennan-Dahrouge, Cassy and Carson McLennan; two great-grandchildren Gregory and Kyra Dempsey; brother William McLennan (Calgary); sister Maxine Klokeid (Calgary) and sister Marjory Houghton of Victoria, BC; as well as numerous nieces nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at the Bragg Creek Center (23 White Avenue, Bragg Creek, AB) on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. People will be invited to say a few words of tribute to Bob at this time.
