Dorothy Fox

Obituary of Dorothy Elizabeth Fox

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother and “big grandma”, two days before her 94th birthday. Dorothy was the first born child of Thomas and Coral Johns of Brant, AB. As an only child for many years, Dorothy was the apple of her Dad’s eye, and as such, she enjoyed a privileged childhood and young adult life. Among her loves were her precious animal companions, music and “good” clothes, all of which remained dear to her throughout her life. She found another great love, Gordon Fox, a handsome banker and ball player. They married on October 4, 1938, and eventually moved to Calgary where they raised two daughters. Once both girls were in school, Dorothy began what would be a long career as a medical office assistant. She was a dedicated family woman who put the needs of her children and grandchildren before her own at all times. She had a remarkable blend of practicality and frivolity which she inherited from her mother and father respectively. There were many adversities along the way and she met each one with dignity and grace, including her blessedly brief struggle with cancer. She will be remembered by all as a truly lovely lady and her scent of Shalimar will always mean that mom is nearby. Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Faye and Ralph Pugh; daughter and son-in-law Pati and Richard Bolduc; granddaughters Kimberley Hitchner and Christie Reid; great grandchildren Brian Bolduc and Brianna Johnson; and sister Mary Christopher. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon; their infant son Jimmy; infant brother Frankie; her parents; sister Frances Anscombe; and loving companion Gerry Margetts. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) today, September 16, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at High River Cemetery.
