Obituary of Harold Edward Hampshire

Harold Edward “Harry” Hampshire of Calgary, passed into the presence of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ at the Beverly Centre on Friday, August 25, 2006 at the age of 86 years. Harry was born January 9, 1920 in London, England, where he completed his education and joined the Royal Navy in 1940. He served in the Fleet Air Arm aboard HMS Victorious in the Mediterranean theatre during World War 2, leaving the service with the rank of Chief Petty Officer in 1946. In 1948, Harry married Joan Donadio, and they moved to Trinidad where Harry worked for British West Indian Airways, and then on to Toronto in 1950 where Harry worked for AVRO. They relocated to Calgary in 1951, where Harry accepted a Chief Deputy Inspector position with Canadian Pacific Airlines and became a member of the Canadian Aeronautical Institute. In addition to his work in aviation, Harry was also an accomplished jazz drummer, regularly playing at the 400 Club and the Petroleum Club throughout the fifties and early sixties. In the mid sixties, the family lived in London England, and then in Ottawa where Harry worked with Northern Telecom/Mitel. He completed his working career with a return to Calgary in 1967 as production manager in the telecommunications industry with Reliable Electric Corporation. Harry semi retired in 1985 and completed several consulting contracts with KeyWord Technologies in Calgary. Harry is survived by his son Anthony Hampshire; daughter-in-law Maureen Hampshire; and granddaughters, Alison and Caitlyn Hampshire of Millarville, AB; daughter Christine Lederer; son-in-law Robert Lederer; and granddaughter Hannah Lederer of Millarville, AB. Harry was predeceased by his loving wife Joan. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, September 1, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
