Obituary of Low Horn

Elliot (O-KA-KO-KI’N) left peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, August 21, 2006, after a difficult battle with cancer and diabetes, at the age of 61 years. Elliot was born on March 27, 1945 at the Blackfoot Indian Hospital on Siksika Nation. He is survived by his loving wife, companion and best friend Sylvia Grace who remained by his side until his passing; children, Brent, Clifton, Tracey, Ellison and Stacey; step-children, Denise and Fondella Young; grandchildren, Tyrell, Robyn, Brant, twins Brandy and Shaylee, Erin, Emilly, Trina, Keyvan, Marla, Nigel, Angel, Nathan, Nolan, Branley and newest addition Denver Elliot. He is also survived by his brother and sisters, Joey Low Horn, Theresa Stevens, Delphine Starlight, Henrietta Low Horn, Vera Stevens, Rachel First Rider and Alanna White; brothers-in-law, Steve White, Frank Stevens, Gilbert Young; and sister-in-law Connie Young. Elliot will also be remembered his aunts, Annie Stabbed Last, Clarisse and Christine Little Chief; uncle Roy Little Chief; and great aunt Rosalma Many Shots. Elliot was predeceased by his grandparents, II-KAA-SKII-NII and Juanita Low Horn, Joe and Jane Little Chief; parents, Henry and Noella Low Horn; father and mother-in-law, James and Louise Young; brothers, Sam and Melvin Low Horn; sisters, Rose Marie, Alexis Jean Low Horn, and Yvonne White; uncles, Jack Low Horn, Phillip and Tom Little Chief; aunts, Albertine Low Horn, Margaret Wolf Leg, Mary Florence Bull Bear, Eunice Yellow Horse and Elizabeth Spring Chief; step-son Donald Young; grandson Brent Jr.; nephews, Miles, Sherwin “Jo”, Tory “Spud” Low Horn, Alonso White and Todd Many Guns; and niece Cheryl Low Horn. Elliot was a very passionate man who accepted all people. He spent his leisure time helping those in need whether it was spending quality time visiting or delivering a warm meal to friends and relatives. He was known for his jolly sense of humour and distinctive laughter which placed a memory in your heart. He loved and adored his family very much, especially his wife, children, and grandchildren. Some of the favorite family pastimes that he enjoyed were travelling summers and being a spectator at various powwows. He also enjoyed hearing and sharing a good story and joke with others. He received his education through the Old Sun Residential School, Cluny School and finally at Western Canada High School in Calgary. He was recognized as a dedicated hard worker through some of his employment. To name a few would be that of GenStar, Alberta Forestry, Hoff Farming, the oil and gas industry, Old Sun Bussing and finally forming his own company, Low Horn Construction. Elliot was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, serving with the Canadian Armed Forces as a Rifleman with the Queens Own Rifles of Canada Regiment from 1960-1964. Wake Services will be held at the Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour, (Siksika Nation, AB) today, August 27, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour (Siksika Nation, AB) on Monday, August 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at the Cannon Stockton Cemetery, Siksika Nation, AB.
