Obituary of Graham Clifford Alvey

On Tuesday, August 15, 2006, Graham Alvey passed away at the age of seventy-nine. Graham’s passing was peaceful and full with the love and respect of his wife, Bernice; his children and their spouses, Michael and Annette, Stephen, and Susan and Don; and grandchildren, Justin, Dayna, Timothy and Jared at his bedside. Graham Clifford Alvey was born in 1926 in Longwhatten, Leicester County, England, the son of Archie and Edith Alvey, who immigrated to Streetsville, ON, where they made their home. In 1949, Graham graduated from the University of Toronto with a BSC in Engineering Physics and a Masters Degree in Geophysics, and moved West with his wife Bernice to pursue a career in the oil industry. Throughout their lives together, Graham and Bernice happily resided in Edmonton and Calgary, AB; Havana, Cuba; Brea, CA; Tripoli, Libya; Islamabad, Pakistan; and London, England. Graham lived a healthy and active life, playing squash, badminton and tennis, riding his bicycle thousands of miles through various countries, and building boats and sailing in lakes and oceans around the world. He was a cofounder of the Calgary Junior Sailing School and taught adult/junior classes. He gave freely of his time and talents to whatever community he lived in. Graham loved to enthusiastically share what he experienced through his living. Besides his loving wife Bernice, Graham is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Annette Alvey; his son Stephen Alvey; his daughter and son-in-law Susan and Don Chadwick; and five grandchildren, Dayna, Laura, Jared, Justin, and Timothy. He was predeceased by his parents Archie and Edith Alvey; and brother Geoff Alvey. Graham lived his final ten weeks in the Carewest – Sarcee Hospice. The family is grateful for the professional care and loving atmosphere provided by Jennifer Lee and her team at the Hospice.
