Obituary of Wadih Salloum

Wadih Salem Salloum of Calgary passed away in his sleep on Sunday, August 13, 2006 at the age of 94 years. Wadih was born in Karoun, Lebanon on April 15, 1912. He immigrated to Swift Current, SK in 1951 and has resided in Calgary for the past forty-one years. He was very fond of his adopted country and held Canada very dear to him. Wadih was known as a quiet, gentle man with deep pride for his family and strong love for his faith. The endless stories of life and history told by ‘Jidu’ will be deeply missed by all. His love for reading, backgammon and cards will always stand out for us, even when his failing eyesight in his last few years restricted these and other activities. But to his very last days he cherished above all else visiting with family and friends, his sincerity and sense of humour always shining through. Wadih is survived by his wife Adibe; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Sam and RenÚe, Lou and Helly, all of Calgary and Jack and Nellie of Edmonton. He deeply missed his son James George (Jim) who has been missing for twenty-seven years. He is also survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Salloum, and Donna and Grant Sales, all of Calgary; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
