Obituary of Earl Joseph Ward

Earl Joseph Ward, beloved husband of Mary Ward of Calgary, passed away on August 4, 2006, after a lengthy illness at the age of 85 years. Earl was born on September 9, 1920, in Foxwarren, MB. He was a Veteran of WWII, serving with the Seaforth Highlanders. In 1944 he met Mary Gibos in Lethbridge and they were married in 1946 in Blairmore, AB. Mary and Earl moved to Calgary in the early fifties. Earl owned and operated E. Ward Drilling Company and was in the exploration drilling industry throughout the three western provinces, B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan for thirty years. After retirement Earl followed his true passion, and started his own lawn care and landscaping business which he operated from 1982 to 1992. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a very active member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Earl was a great family man. Besides his loving wife of sixty years, Mary, Earl is survived by his three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jeannie and John Crundwell, Colleen and Geoff Smolkin, and Charlene Irvine; son Colin Ward; grandchildren Carrie DeMaere (Jesus Lagunas) and Candice DeMaere, Laura and Tyler Smolkin, Logan Irvine, and Cailean, Cody and Braden Elliot; and great-grandchildren Ana Maria and Sebastian Robert DeMaere. He is also remembered by Logan’s dad, Jim Irvine and several step-brothers, step-sisters, nieces and nephews. Earl was predeceased by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday August 10, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church (5340 – 4th Street S.W.) on Friday August 11, 2006, at 11:00, with Rev.
