Obituary of Douglas Stanley Birks

Douglas (Bill) Stanley Birks of Calgary, passed away peacefully at his home on August 3rd , 2006, at the age of 86 years. Bill was born in Toronto on August 16th, 1919. After his service as a Lieutenant overseas during WW II, Bill and Phyllis moved to Calgary in 1948 to raise their family. To fill his retirement years, Bill re-enlisted as a Commissionaire at CFB Calgary. He also turned his efforts to many volunteer organizations in the city including Radio Watch, Block Watch and the Calgary White Hatters. He also found time to earn his Ham Radio License (VE6DSB) and was involved with the Calgary Amateur Radio Association. He will be sadly missed by Phyllis, his wife of 65 years, his three sons and daughter, their spouses and his grandchildren. The family would like to acknowledge the dedicated support of the CRHA Home Care and Palliative Care teams that provided so much care, compassion and support to Bill and his family as he completed his life’s journey. Special thanks to Colleen from We Care for her help and support to Bill, Phyllis and the rest of the family. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
