Obituary of Norman Milner

Norman Sharpe Milner, beloved husband of Bonita Milner (ne_ Baskin) passed away on Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006 in Calgary, Alberta at the Rockyview General Hospital at the age of 85 after a valiant battle with cancer. Norman’s love of life, joyful spirit and positive attitude were a constant inspiration to his friends, family and many acquaintances. Norman was born and raised in Calgary. He attended King Edward School and joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1942, serving overseas with the Canadian Coastal Forces; 65th and 29th Motor Torpedo Boat Flotillas through the end of World War II. Following the War, Norman returned to Calgary where he met his wife Bonita Baskin. Norman worked in a number of different businesses in Calgary throughout his career before going into business for himself. Following retirement Norman and Bonnie enjoyed traveling across North America and spending time with friends and family. Norman also volunteered with the Kirby Seniors Centre in Calgary, serving on the Board of Directors for several years and was active for many years with the Canadian Coastal Forces Veterans Association. Norman will be sorely missed by his dear wife Bonita Milner, sons Darryl Milner (Elizabeth) of St. Albert, and Dean Milner (Susan), daughter Susan Woodward (Bill) of Calgary, grandchildren Andrea Milner (Joe), Alexandra, Justine, and Tanner Milner and Robert and Kristine Woodward, and great granddaughter Kaitlyn Milner. Norman is also survived by his brother Frank Milner and sisters Edna Allen and Louise Starr. Norman was predeceased by his sisters Alice Milner, Isabel Dunlop, Shirley Royle, and his brothers Eric, George and Lloyd Milner. A celebration of Norman’s life will be held on Tuesday August 8, 2006 at 1:30 pm at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 1102 23rd Ave. N.W., Calgary, with the Reverend David Vincent, Presider. The family would like to extend its sincerest appreciation to the staff of Unit 58 at the Foothills Hospital and Dr. Wong and the staff of Unit 59 at the Rockyview Hospital for their outstanding care, attention and kindness.
