Obituary of Phyllis Ford

FORD – Phyllis 1910 – 2006 Phyllis Ford passed away on August 1, 2006 at the age of 96 years. Born in Revelstoke and raised in Chase, BC, Phyllis moved to Calgary in her early teens, where she lived until her death. She was blessed with an extraordinary spirit of optimism and zest for living, which throughout her life, touched the people she met and loved. Phyllis displayed this spirit in her life involvement with many Calgary charities, her church and her family. A great sportswoman, she was involved in tennis, badminton, golf, skiing, curling and hiking. With her late husband Austin, who owned and operated Lake O’Hara Lodge from 1954 to 1976, they turned a “backwoods” Lodge into an internationally known resort which it is today. At the age of 84 years young, Phyllis wrote a book on the transformation of the Lodge throughout their years of ownership, which was published in 1998. The mountains were her love and she spent many years hiking and managing the Lodge, which is located just inside the BC – Alberta border. A philosopher, poet, author, wife, mother and grandmother, she will be lovingly missed and remembered by her daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Roger of Malaysia; and son and daughter-in-law Harry and Sandra of Calgary; and her treasured grandsons Shaun and Lucas (Harry and Sandra) of Calgary. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Austin in 1981. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Friday August 4, 2006, at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. M.
