Obituary of Charles August Thalheimer

Charles Thalheimer, beloved husband of Nonie Thalheimer of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at the age of 82 years. Charlie was born in Saskatchewan in 1924, the third of eight children to Jacob and Bridget Thalheimer. He began his career at the young age of sixteen, when he went to work for Mannix Co. Ltd. Charlie remained at Mannix (which later became LORAM) for over forty years, during which time he worked his way up through Master Mechanic and eventually to Equipment Division Manager. His work took him to many parts of the United States and Canada, during which time he worked on projects such as the Alaskan Highway, the Boundary Dam and power house in Washington, DC, and the Mica Dam near Revelstoke, BC. After leaving LORAM in the early 1980’s, Charlie set up his own construction and heavy equipment consulting company, and worked on various projects including the Old Man River Dam. Besides his loving wife of fifty-seven years Nonie, Charlie is remembered by his one son Pat Thalheimer and daughter-in-law Ros Thalheimer; one daughter Peggy Sauverwald; son-in-law Terry Sauverwald; and four grandchildren, Sarah and David Thalheimer, and Mark and Heather Sauverwald, all of Calgary. He is also survived by his two brothers, Joe of Edmonton, AB and Lawrence (Gwen) of Kamloops, BC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Charlie was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
