Obituary of Norris A. Beaton

Norris Beaton of Calgary, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2006 at the age of 85 years. Born in Medicine Hat, AB, on July 6, 1921, Norris is the son of Angus and Myrtle (Neilly) Beaton. His father was a pioneer farmer at Whitla, AB, and his mother was born in Middleton, NS. Norris was educated at Whitla and Bow Island, AB. In 1940, he joined the R.C.A.F., served in Canada and the South Pacific and was discharged in 1945 with the rank of Corporal. After war service, he joined the staff of Geophysical Services Incorporated as a driller’s helper, and later as a surveyor. In 1962, he was promoted to administrator of the marine division based in Calgary. Norris spent years in the Arctic Ocean and previous to this, has travelled to various parts of Canada and the United States. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and attended the United Church. Travel, family activities, curling and golf are some of his many joys and interests. Norris is survived by three children and their spouses, Barry and Linda Beaton of Strathmore, Sherilyn and Alastair of St. Phillips, NF, and Lorrie and Gloria Beaton of Calgary; eight grandchildren, Duane, Jennifer, Dale, Clinton, Devon, Emily, Tia, and Adrian; and one great-grandson, Connor. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Agnew of Medicine Hat, AB; and brother, Neil of Winnipeg, MB. Norris was predeceased by his wife, Irene. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
