Obituary of Robert Woolstencroft

Robert Woolstencroft L.R.C.P., M.R.C.S. passed away in Calgary on July 18, 2006. Robert was born in Oldham, Lancashire, England on March 11, 1909. He qualified from Westminster Medical School in London in 1937. His six year wartime military service included postings in the Mediterranean and Far East. Robert and Diana were married on March 31, 1943 in Lee-on-Solent, in the County of Southampton while he was serving as surgeon on H.M.S. Illustrious. In March of 1948 they landed in Montreal to begin a trek westward to complete a term of medical service in Northern Alberta. In February of 1950 they settled in Calgary where Robert practiced medicine and distinguished himself as provincial president and Alberta member of the Board of Representatives of the College of General Practice (Medicine) of Canada. In 1963 he joined the Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons and retired as Registrar in 1974. In retirement, Robert and Diana moved to Victoria, British Columbia and following an illness he returned to Calgary in 2004. He was deeply loved and will be missed. Robert is survived by his five sons, Peter (Lynne) of Waterloo, Mark (Dorothy) of Calgary, Jon (Yukiko) of St. Catherines, Matthew (Darlene) of Calgary and Tim (Paula) of Toronto; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Diana, in Victoria, British Columbia, in April 2002. A service in Robert Woolstencroft’s memory will take place at Christ Church, 3602 – 8 Street S.W., Calgary, Alberta, on Saturday, July 22, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
