Obituary of Dwight Stewart Stimson

Dwight Stewart Stimson passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2006 at the age of 22 years. Dwight was born on February 15, 1984. He attended school on the Siksika nation at Chief Old Sun, Siksika High School and Old Sun Community College. Dwight won numerous awards for academic and Best Achievement throughout his school years. Dwight inherited his great-grandfather’s Indian name Ba-num and that’s how he was known. He was talented in free style Hip Hop, and loved and excelled in the sport of hockey. Dwight had a strong slap shot and was known for his defense style of checking . He played with the Siksika PeeWee, Bantams, Midgets, Juniors and Siksika Buffaloes Senior Hockey Team. He was especially proud of winning the Gold medal with the Siksika Ice Team 2001 at the Alberta Native Provincials in Edmonton. Dwight received his traditional name “Na to sapi” (Old Sun) when he joined and assisted in the different societies: Horn, Brave Dog/ partner Dana Winnipeg/ carried a Beaver Bundle/ partners Fred and Anne Breaker; Head Weather Dancer for Darren and Roseanne Smith of Peigan. He was very outgoing, friendly and caring to his siblings, friends and relatives. He always acknowledged you with his big smile, with that it said many things. Dwight was vocal in inspiring and encouraging the youth in following our Siksika Traditional ways, and he showed that by being respectful and kind to everyone. Dwight is survived by his sister Ella; brother Nigel; nephew Drazel; uncles, Dan (Maria), Jordan, Horton, Jason, Andrew, Stewart (Shawn), Roy (Joan), Chief Adrian (Leslie) Stimson, Dickie; aunties, Diane (Harvey), Verna Collinson, Mavis (Floyd) Running Rabbit, Lorraine (Edward) Emmons, Darlene Drunken Chief, Ruby Doore, Audrey McMaster, Betty, Elizabeth, Yvonne Stimson; special friends, Christian Rabbit Carrier, Chance Stimson, Tashina Weasel Head and Chris McHugh; and the families of Drunken Chief, Own Chief, Doores, Weasel Child, Bull Bear, Wolf Ear, Running Rabbit, Bear Chief, Cayenne, Poor Eagle, Spotted Eagle, Crane Bear, Turning Robe, Raw Eater, Wright, Axe, Brass, Yellow Fly, Breaker, Three Suns, Medicine Traveler, Black Horse, Maguire, Back Fat, Stevens, Yellow Old Woman, Red Gun and Pretty Young Man. He was predeceased by his parents Dwight Drunken Chief and Tina Stimson; grandparents Theodore and Barbara Drunken Chief and Colin and Bella Stimson; great-grandparents Connor and Doris Stimson, Albert (Ba-num) and Suzy One Runner; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
