Obituary of Maurice Palmer Paulson

Maurice Palmer Paulson passed away on Thursday July 13, 2006, at the Holy Cross Long Term Care Centre. He will be dearly missed by his three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara and John Scott, Kris and Joe Fero and Patricia Newton; his five grandchildren, James, Kent, Kristina, Natalie and Mikaela; and his brother and sister-in-law Cliff and Sheila Paulson, all of Calgary. Maurice was predeceased by his wife of sixty years, Ev, in 2004. Maurice was born on October 3, 1919, in Bawlf AB, the third son of Peter and Marie Paulson. He grew up and went to high school in Camrose, AB, and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1942 with a petroleum engineering degree. After returning to Canada, he married his wife Ev in 1945 and they moved to Calgary in the early 1950’s to raise their family. Maurice worked in the oil business for forty-five years and was the engineer on the Leduc #1 and #2 discoveries. He began his career with Imperial Oil and then went on to work at Home Oil where he became Senior Executive Vice President. During his career he served as President of the Independent Petroleum Association of Canada, was on the Board of Governors at the University of Calgary and was a Director of Home Oil Company, Pan Canadian Petroleum and the Calgary Petroleum Club. Throughout his life, Maurice was an avid golfer, skier and ski jumper. He enjoyed the many golf games, ski trips and fishing expeditions he shared with his friends. In retirement, Maurice and Ev enjoyed their winters in Arizona with their friends and loved the times they spent with their children and grandchildren. Maurice was always known for his kind and considerate nature. He was always a positive influence and went out of his way to help everyone around him.
