Emily, known as Lee to her close friends, was born on November 22, 1914 to Henry and Sara Baker in Winnipeg, MB. She was the Dominion of Canada Fencing Champion in her early twenties and excelled in all she participated in. Emily leaves to remember her with loving memories, her daughter, Cheryl; son Doug; and daughter-in-law Gena Howat, all of Calgary; grandchildren, Caralee (D’Arcy) Costello of Calgary, Christa Howat (Brent Nolan) of Brisbane, Australia, and Michelle Cusson of Montreal, QC. She is also lovingly remembered by her brother-in-law, Robert Hiley of Vancouver, B.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews and old friends. Emily was predeceased by her husband, Lt. Col. Douglas C. Howat in 1983; brothers, Norman and Russell Baker; sister, Helene Hiley; and daughters, Carolee and Brenda Howat. She will now join them to watch over all of her family. Her strength and spirit and unconditional love lives on in all whose hearts and lives she touched.
