Obituary of Louis Sylvester Binda

Louis S. Binda, beloved husband of Sara Binda of Calgary, passed away at home surrounded by the loving support of his family on July 8, 2006 at the age of 81 years. Louis graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in geology in 1951 followed by a Master of Science degree from the University of Manitoba in 1953. He was a WW II veteran and served from March 1, 1944 to August 29, 1946. As a professional geologist Louis worked for Gulf Resources, Provident Resources, Laurence Oil, Dome Canada, Encor and TransCanada. He was a member of APEGGA as well as the Professional Club of Calgary, serving as a director from 1982 to 1984 then as President 1985 to 1986. Louis’ sense of adventure transcended his education, career and family life. During his retirement he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, enjoying good food and wine, travelling around the world, golfing, hiking, gardening, playing pool with his Thursday buddies, spending time with his great neighbours, dancing up a storm with Sara at the Legion, as well as the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Calgary Theatre and Opera. Louis will be greatly missed by his wife Sara of fifty-five years; his children Marlene, Richard, Roberto and Michael; daughter-in-law Heather and son-in-law Jim Bolokoski; grandchildren Jeff, Spencer, Michaela; brother Frank; sister-in-law Judy and family; favourite pets Caicos and Amica. He was predeceased by a grandchild Colby.
