Obituary of Gordon Sidney Rankin

Gordon Sidney (Gord) Rankin, beloved husband of Beth Rankin of Calgary, passed away on Monday July 10, 2006 at the age of 72 years. He was predeceased by his parents Peg and R.J. (Bob) Rankin and his brother John Rankin. Gord was born on December 9, 1933 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Growing up in Halifax, athletics were a big part of Gord’s life. While pursuing his Bachelor of Commerce at Dalhousie University, Gord was chosen Athlete of the Year. He had a successful career that broke barriers in the liquid petroleum gas business. Gord served as President and CEO of various companies including Stillings Petroleum Canada, CanStates Energy and Kinetic Resources. Besides his loving wife of forty-nine years, Beth, Gord is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jim and Barbara Rankin of Cochrane; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Dave LaBarre of Calgary; four grandchildren, Michael and Catherine Rankin and Garrett and Matthew LaBarre. Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church (924 Heritage Drive S.W.) on Friday July 14, 2006, at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Rod Sykes, Presider.
