Obituary of Dore Mores Malmberg

DorÚ Mores Malmberg, beloved husband of over sixty years to Lola Lamb Malmberg of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2006 at 1:40 a.m. in his 87th year with his family by his side and surrounded by his caregivers at McKenzie Towne Care Centre. Born September 4, 1919 at Retlaw, AB, he was the youngest of twelve children of Carl and Maria Malmberg. He lived and worked on the family dryland farm until he was in his twenties. DorÚ briefly enlisted in the army during WWII and was honourably discharged. On August 25, 1945, he married Lola Lamb in Lethbridge, AB, celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary last year. They have three children, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. DorÚ was predeceased by his parents Carl and Maria; and his sisters and brothers, Hilda, Esther, Carl, Mary, Theodore Axel (Ted), twins Anthon Homer (Huck) and Oscar Edward, Emma, Edward, Oscar Edwin, and Dorothea. He is survived by his wife Lola; son Robert (Gloria); daughters Diane (Ernie) Landry and Wendy (David) Murray; grandchildren, Sandra (Richard) Shannon, Terri, and Virginia; and great-grandchildren, Daniel and Janelle. DorÚ worked most of his life as a Radio Technician. He started out at CJOC Lethbridge in 1945 and went on to work for the CBC, at CBX in Watrous, SK, CBR in Lacombe and CBC in Calgary for more than thirty-three years until he retired. He was a talented technician, a genius at fixing anything that was broken, and a troubleshooter who could figure out what was wrong when no one else could. Radio was his work, his passion and his hobby. He was an amateur ham radio operator with the call letters VE6YA. His key has fallen silent now. DorÚ was a trapshooter and he belonged to the Calgary Gun Club for years, enjoying trapshooting and skeet. He reloaded his own shotgun shells, and even made his own lead shot. He won bronze in trapshooting in the Alberta Senior Games in 1975 and many times in his life shot 50 or 100 straight. He loved camping, fishing and hunting game birds and taught all his children to appreciate the sport of target shooting and the safe-handling of firearms. Dad was a great storyteller and, to the very end, he had a sense of humour and was joking with his caregivers.
