Obituary of Michael Smith
Michael Smith of Calgary passed away on peacefully on Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at the age of 85 years.
Mike was born October 18, 1920 in Calgary, AB. He grew up in Calgary and attended Colonel Walker School and Western Canada High School. During World War II he served his country in the RCAF stationed in Scotland. On October 18, 1952 he married Eva Mae and resided in Winston Heights Mountview in Calgary. Mike worked in the sheet metal trade and taught at SAIT from 1969 through 1981. He placed high value on a strong work ethic and good hand skills. His greatest joys included family, friends, golfing and travel. Mike is remembered fondly as a great Dad, a comical Grandpa, a loyal brother, a favourite uncle and a fine friend. He was a warm, funny, and easygoing character. His casual nature brought great comfort to all who knew him. In honour of this, the family requests that guests attending his memorial refrain from wearing neckties. Mike was not one for formality.
Mike is survived by his beloved sons, Norman of Calgary and Darcy of Vancouver and two grandchildren, Daniel and Jillian. He also leaves behind his sister Annie Walters. Mike was predeceased by Eva in October, 2005; sister Stella Barley in 1982 and brother Edward in 2005.
