Obituary of David Charles Llewllyn Jones

David Charles Llewellyn Jones born January 17, 1919 in Merthyr Tydfil Wales, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his wife Helen Margaret (Rose) surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 4, 2006. David is lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 64 ¥ years, children and their families; Hugh Jones, Tracy Walker (Doug), Tom Jones (Kenny), Cathie Perry (Kim), Sheila Vataiki (John) and Bruce Jones (Kim); grandchildren, Robin, Sean and Chris (Hugh); David and Crista (Tracy); John, Emily, Marie and Jackie (Tom); Kaitlin and Carmen (Cathie); Monivoi, Kaprieli and Tomasi (Sheila); Tyson, Hayden and Colton (Bruce); great-grandchildren, Josh, Joe, Liz, Sammy, Danny and Michael (Craven) and Saya (Jones). David is also survived by his very special younger sister Eira Spaner of Edmonton, and her loving and supportive children, David, Douglas, Dean, Shelley and Donna Spaner and their families and was predeceased by his wonderful older sister Megan Jones, his beloved mother Annie Llewellyn Jones and father Elias Jones. During the Second World War, David served his country as a flight instructor for the Royal Canadian Air Force. David went on to become a well respected lawyer with Canadian Superior Oil for over 30 years and was Vice President and General Counsel for the last many. He was a passionate golfer and Past President of both Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton and the Calgary Golf & Country Club as well as Past Vice President of the Royal Canadian Golf Association. He was a gifted hockey player in his youth and at 17 was invited to the Chicago Black Hawks training camp. He played defence for the Coleman Canadians and was especially proud of the one victory the Canadians had over the Trail Smoke Eaters the year the Smoke Eaters won the Cup. David remained a committed fan to hockey and many other sports and faithful fan of both the Calgary Flames and Stampeders. He was also a gifted singer with a beautiful tenor voice and sang in a number of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas at the University of Alberta. Special thanks to Dr. Shillington and the staff of Unit 47 at Rockyview General Hospital for their loving care. Also thanks to our caregivers at home for the past six months, especially Phyllis Fichtner.
