Obituary of Barry Carruthers
It is with a bittersweet blend of sorrow and rejoicing that we announce the passing of Barry Carruthers, on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at the age of 65 years, the beloved husband of Elfrieda Carruthers of Calgary.
Barry was born on November 3, 1940 in Rose Valley, SK and grew up in the farming community of Bentley, AB with his four brothers and four sisters. He graduated from high school there and later attended SAIT where he received his Construction Technology Degree. Barry married Elfrieda Dyck on November 11, 1961 in Calgary. They moved to Vancouver, BC in 1967 where he began his career in real estate development management, which he continued until diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2001.
Besides his loving wife Elfrieda, Barry is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Teresa Carruthers of Calgary and their children, Blake, Melissa and Mariah; and by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Randy Wiens of Calgary and their children Amanda, Lauren and Jared, and Shannon and Brad Little of Calgary and their children Megan, Matthew, Austin and Emmett. He is also survived by two brothers, Dwain and Blaine Carruthers; and two sisters, Sherrill Carruthers and Sandra Kryn. Barry was predeceased by his parents, Merron and Melville Carruthers; two brothers; and two sisters.
A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Monday, July 17, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Ray Matheson of the First Alliance Church, Presider. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
