Dorothy Hamilton

Obituary of Dorothy Verna Hamilton

With great sadness we announce that Dorothy passed away suddenly, as a result of car accident, on Friday June 9, 2006. Born in Rouleau, Saskatchewan, she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Degree in Home Economics. It was there, that she met her husband Hugh. Dorothy and Hugh spent many years in Burlington, Ontario and moved to Calgary in 1967. Dorothy was a fierce competitor and enjoyed curling for many years. Later, her passion became hiking and cross country skiing with her beloved Skrastins Outdoor club. She made many wonderful friends with this group and enjoyed travelling to many far off places with some of them. Her biggest passion was her much loved Calgary Stampeders. A great fan of football, she had season’s tickets for fifty years both in Ontario and Calgary. When in Ontario she held season’s tickets at both Toronto and Hamilton Stadiums. However, the Stampeders were her team. Dorothy moved to Kelowna in 1999 at the age of 79. She immediately became immersed in all of the activities at her residence and organized many of her new friends in morning hikes up the Canyon. She continued her travelling, going to Australia, New Zealand and Borneo when she was past 80 years old. Dorothy was full of life and vitality right to the end. She had just completed a hike in Mission Creek Park when the accident occurred. The Calgary Stampeders have lost their most faithful cheerleader and we have lost a dear soul. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her. Dorothy is survived by her mother, Letha Mae Seaman of Calgary; daughter Heather Brenneman (Peter) of Kelowna; son Doug Hamilton; daughter-in-law Barb Hamilton; three brothers, Doc, B.J. and Don Seaman; sister-in-law Eleanor of Calgary; grandchildren, Jeff, Eric and Jamie Brenneman, Cheryll Hamilton (Jonathan); great grandchild Cowen; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Hugh, and her father Byron (Pate) Seaman. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday June 16, 2006, at 2:30 p.m. A later celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Wednesday June 21, 2006, at 2:00 p.m., at the Balmoral Clubhouse (2365 Stillingfleet Road, Kelowna BC).
