Obituary of Leonard Eklund

Leonard John Eklund, of Calgary, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2006 at the age of 74 years. Leonard was born July 7, 1931 in Gull Lake, SK to Karl and Hilda Eklund whom were immigrants from Sweden. He married Emelia on April 25, 1958 in Wetaskiwin, AB. Leonard worked for National Neon for over four decades. He was an inventor and master craftsman whose work and designs of signs can be seen throughout Calgary and area. Leonard and Emelia loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and travelling the Prairie Provinces. He had a great love of family and his children and grandchildren were very special to him. “Of all the gifts you share, it’s the gift of yourself that means so much. You bring smiles and laughter to family moments, warmth and caring to the lives you touch and happiness to everyone lucky enough to be part of your life”. Leonard is survived by his son Darren and daughter-in-law Karen and their children, Tanya (Adam), Dustin, Shelby and a great-granddaughter Gabrielle of Calgary; his daughter Carlene and her children, Shaun, Brad and Andrew of Nanaimo, BC. He is also survived by his twin sister Sonja (Tony) Luxhoj; brothers Jim (Ruth), Sig, Henry and Alex Eklund as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Leonard was predeceased by his wife Emelia in 2002.
