Obituary of Margaret Jennie Young

Margaret Jennie Young, beloved wife of the late Roy Effinger Young of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre – Cochrane on Sunday, May 28, 2006 at the age of 94 years. Margaret was born on October 9, 1911 in Millet, AB to John and Ethel Haines to become a member of the Haines’ Alberta homesteading family. She moved to Edmonton in 1934 where she met her husband Roy Young and they were married on June 22, 1936. Roy and Margaret lived in the Highlands and Hardisty areas of Edmonton until 1987, when they moved to Calgary. Margaret moved to the Bethany Care Centre – Cochrane in 2002, following the death of her husband Roy. Margaret was active in the Highlands United Church in Edmonton and was a life member of the United Church Women’s Auxiliary. Her greatest love was the cottage at Pigeon Lake, her Petti Point Crafts and her gardens. Margaret is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Jean Young of Calgary; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Dave Prince of New Westminster, BC; and by five grandchildren, Jim and Trish of Roswell, GA, Darren and Clare of Nanaimo, BC, Peter and Delanne of White Rock, BC, Joanne Prince of New Westminster, BC and Darlene and Jaybe Allanson of Burnaby, BC. She is also survived by her seven great grandchildren, Jordan and Alex, Curtis and Vanessa, Keaton and Kyler Young, and Audrey Allanson. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Roy; her sister Susan Holm; her brothers, Edward and William Haines; and by her brother-in-law Godfrey Holm. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Friday, June 2, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow in “The Garden of Remembrance” at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
