Obituary of Alfred Gardiner
Alfred “Scotty” Gardiner, beloved husband of Helen Gardiner of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at the age of 80 years.
Alfred was born on March 15, 1926 in Portsoy, Banffshire, Scotland. He attended school at Portsoy and Fordyce Academy. In 1944, he married Helen Goodall and immigrated to Calgary, Canada in 1967; where he has resided since. While in Scotland Alfred farmed, moving on to the trucking industry after arriving in Calgary. Alfred’s most memorable vacations were visiting with family in New Zealand. He had many passions and talents, including fishing, being a devoted hockey fan, tending to his flowers, and square and round dancing – which he enjoyed for twenty years.
Besides his loving wife Helen, Alfred is remembered by his daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and William of New Zealand, and Maureen and Peter of Calgary; daughter-in-law Val Gardiner of Whitehorse; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Janet and Olive, both of Scotland. Alfred was predeceased by his son Allister; two brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (703 Heritage Drive S.W.) on Friday, June 2, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Peter Coutts Presider.
