Obituary of Big Crow

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and friend, May Big Crow “Gramma” (nee Rider) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at the age of 73 years. Gramma was born on November 22, 1932 in Morley, AB. She had many joys in life – she was a devoted Calgary Flames fan, and loved her pets; her cat Herbie and her two birds. She believed in living life to the fullest – attending monthly Elders meetings brought her great joy; it was here that she was able to visit with her friends. She will be greatly missed by her children, Nancy, Alivin (Liz), Doreen (Watson), Wilf (Corrina), Delia, Buddy (Allison), Deanna (Mark), Justine, and adopted daughter, Karen Dodginghorse; the children’s father, Russell Big Crow; two special grandchildren, Scott and Jesse; sisters, Gwen Rider, Stella Powderface, Lavina Brown, Margret Hunter, and Clara Rollinmud; and brother, Jeff Hunter. Gramma is also survived by her special friend, Bertha Big Plume; sisters-in-law, Vanora (Clifford Big Plume), Keitha Many Horses, and Eva Yellowhorn; brothers-in-law, Rodney (Yvonne) Big Crow, Frank (Eileen) Big Crow, and Clarence Big Crow; cousins, Sheila (George) Labelle, Ruby Snow, Eddie (Elsie) Holloway, Horace Holloway, Barbara Hunter, Ramona Wildman, Sykes Powederface, and numerous relatives from Morley and Tsuu T’ina Nations. She was predeceased by her daughter, Loretta; sister, Rita; brother, Ken Soldier; grandsons, Eli and Blaine; granddaughter, Buffy; nephew, Chester; niece, Kelsey; sister-in-law, Edith; mother-in-law, Hilda; and her best friend Ida.
