Obituary of Phyllis Gelfand

With great sadness we announce that our beloved mother died peacefully on May 22, 2006. Phyllis was born on August 4, 1916 in Winnipeg, the daughter of Idell and Charles Cohen. She lived in Winnipeg, Vancouver, and for the past fifty two years in Calgary. Phyllis was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She lived a long and healthy life filled with the joy of family, sense of community and a passion for the arts. She will be sorely missed. Phyllis is survived by her children Roberta and David, Lewis and Stella, Joel and Stephanie and Gary and Jamie; grandchildren Julian, Vivienne, Tony, Ben, Sharla, Aaron, Sydney and Michael; and brother Dr. Leonard Cohen of Philadelphia. She was predeceased by her first husband Capt. Sam Sheps in 1941, her second husband Dr. Sidney Gelfand in 1980, and her sister Peggy Samuels in 2003. Funeral Services will be held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel (North East Corner of Highway 22X & 37th Street S.W.,) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at the Beth Tzedec Memorial Park (122 Shalom Way S.W.).
