Obituary of John Arthur Yorke

John A. Yorke, beloved husband of Roberta (Bobbie) of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2006 at the age of 58 years. John was born in Glace Bay, NS, on September 23, 1947. Upon completion of his High School diploma, John entered postsecondary education, where he received his Masters of Education. With this he began his teaching career where he made an impact on many young minds in both Nova Scotia and Calgary. John spent thirty years as a teacher working in Nova Scotia as well as in Calgary for the Calgary Catholic Separate Board of Education. As an active member of A.A. for the past fifteen years, John has also impacted the lives of the individuals he has come across here. He was also an active member throughout the community in Nova Scotia. In particular, he was involved in the Nova Scotia Hockey Association, North Sydney Kinsmen Club and he also earned his Golden Gloves in boxing. John had a passion for traveling and camping and any opportunity he could spend with his family he considered a privilege. Besides his loving wife, Bobbie, who John loved with all his heart, he is survived by his children, Charles (currently teaching in Hong Kong), Jamie (also currently teaching in Hong Kong), Corey, Caitlyn, Carrie, Maureen and Gerald. He will also be remembered by his grandchildren, Laurie, Jocelyn and baby Sara, all of which he loved to watch grow. John will be sadly missed by Doris, Mary and their families, all of Calgary; Joyce, Robert, Lloyd, Shawn and their families, all of Ontario; as well as Brenda and Rita and their families, all of Nova Scotia. John was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Laura Yorke; and by his brother Francis (Buddy).
