Obituary of Elizabeth Margaret Medland

Elizabeth “Peggy” Margaret Medland of Calgary passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at the age of 87 years. Peggy was born on July 18, 1918 in Secunderabad, India, where her father was on a ten-year directorship with the YMCA. At the age of ten, her family moved to Montreal, QC where she graduated from West Hills High School. Peggy then moved to New York and received a degree in Commercial Art. In 1940, she joined the RCAF, became an officer and served during WWII. In 1945, she met and married Harry Medland and gave birth to twin sons and later a daughter. Peggy and her family have lived in Sarnia, Port Arthur, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Calgary, which is where she lived for the last forty-six years. Peggy loved animals and travel, for the last twenty-five years she travelled extensively across Canada to the Middle East, Europe, China, Australia, South America and Africa. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels for many years and supported numerous charities, including the Calgary Zoo, and Calgary Humane Society. Peggy enjoyed reading, playing bridge, crossword puzzles and picnics. Her greatest weaknesses were for sweets, dogs, and potato chips! Peggy is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law Gordon and Barbara, of Calgary, Tom and Margaret, of Stettler, AB; her daughter and son-in-law Tham and Howard Greenwood, of Calgary, AB; and her brother-in-law Harvey Medland, of Toronto, ON. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Susan (Alain) Moore, of Fort McMurray, Michael Medland, Nicole (John) Gearhart, Elise Medland, Trevyn, Catherine and Diane Greenwood, all of Calgary; as well as three great-grandchildren, Elenie and Adara Gearhart and Aidan Moore. Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Harry Medland. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Sunday, May 14, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev.
