Obituary of Anna Smith

Anna (Ann) Smith (nee Rattray) of Calgary passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, May 6, 2006, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 78 years. Ann was born on July 12, 1927, on her grandparents farm in Sheho, SK. She grew up in Govan and after high school she went to work for the Royal Bank in Strasbourg, then to Regina. On December 21, 1957, she married H.J. (Jim) Smith, they moved to Calgary in 1960. They ran Smith Insurance from home for years and after Jim died in 1972, she continued to run it on her own while raising her kids. Ann is survived by her beloved daughter Shelley and son Doug; three grandchildren, James, Jordan and Matthew. Ann was predeceased by her husband Jim Smith in 1972; and her devoted companion Ted (Tex) Tyler of 28 years on March 30, 2006; sister Faye; and brother Floyd (Sonny). Ann will be remembered for always putting everyone else before herself and will be deeply missed by all.”She had a heart of gold”.
