Obituary of Anna Ellergodt

Anna (Anne) Ellergodt, beloved wife of Mr. Ron Ellergodt of Calgary, went to be with her Lord, peacefully at home at 5:25 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2006 at the age of 85 years. Anne was born on November 27, 1920 into a God fearing Mennonite family, the sixth of thirteen children to Bernard and Sarah Heppner who were farmers in Laird, SK. She graduated from Prairie Bible Institute. In 1949, she went to China as a missionary. Needing to flee the communist insurgence, she went to Hong Kong with The South China Boat Mission. Anne met Ron in Philadelphia during OMF candidate school. They were married in Raub, Malaysia, in 1957 and were blessed with five children. They were involved in planting churches in Karak, Raub, Sungea Ruin and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They were also in Hong Kong from 1971-75 in literature ministries. Upon returning to Canada Anne worked with Ron at Christian Publication Book Store until her retirement at 65. Anne and Ron were instrumental in the early 1980’s serving and helping Vietnamese Chinese refugees get settled in Canada. Anne’s life desire was to “Love the Lord her God with all her heart, soul, mind and strength and her neighbour as herself.” She did this through her love for prayer, God’s Word, and reaching out to hurting people. Anne believed in the power of prayer. Many people were touched by her life because she believed prayer could change lives. As a result she initiated and was involved in vital prayer initiatives for missions, women and people in her community. Anne was also active in leading Bible studies, encouragement ministries, hospitality and mentoring young women. Anne will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her husband of 49 years, Ron. Also her children, Bruce (Julia), Becky (Harvey), Sandy, Myrna (Buzz), Brent (Carol) and her twelve grand children. She is also survived by her siblings, Herb, Jesse, Agnes, Rose and Mary.
