Obituary of Karen Margaret Jones
Karen Margaret Jones of Calgary passed away at home on Monday, May 1, 2006, after a lengthy illness at the age of 65 years.
Karen is survived by her husband and best friend Tom; her children, Dawn and her companion George, Michael and his wife Gloria, Joan and her husband Tom, and Megan; grandchildren April, Matthew, J.D., and Katy; and by great-granddaughter Bibianna.
Born December 29th, 1940, in Cabri, SK, Karen lived in Calgary from 1950, attended Crescent Heights High School, and was a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Her early adult years were spent working at Mount Royal College and later at the John Howard Society. In her marriage with Tom, they were partners with complementary roles. She encouraged and supported him in his professional aspirations, while also committing herself to raising their children and volunteering her time to numerous worthy causes – especially those related to education and to literacy. Karen was a passionate patron of the arts, and took delight in theatre, dance, literature, and music. She was a rare and gracious person, an outstanding mom, a loyal and loving wife, a talented writer, and generally someone her family and friends are proud and grateful to have known. She was much loved – and she will be much missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
