Obituary of Robert Pogontcheff

Bob Pogontcheff, beloved husband of Mrs. Gordi Pogontcheff of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2006 at the age of 82 years. Bob was born on April 4, 1924 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He later moved to Niagara Falls, ON where remained until he finished his high school diploma. It was at this time that Bob moved to Toronto, ON where he attended The University of Toronto and received both his Bachelors and his Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering. Bob was married in 1953 to Mary Jane (Gordi) Wharry and they continued to create a beautiful life together for the rest of the time they had. He worked for Shell Oil and at the time of his retirement, was a Vice President of Husky Oil. Bob was in the RCN during WWII, where he was responsible for reconnaissance work in the area of the North Atlantic. Bob was a member of the United Church of Canada. Bob loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren, and enjoyed playing golf, sitting in the sun on his deck and going to his second home in Arizona . Besides his loving wife, Bob is remembered by a son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Julie Pogontcheff of Edmonton; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Douglas Clenchy of Bragg Creek; three grandchildren, Megan Clenchy, Matthew Clenchy, and Kayla Callfas; and his sister, Zorka Bassil of Toronto, ON. Bob was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Ted Pogontcheff.
