Obituary of Lorraine Cooper

Lorraine R. M. Cooper, began her last journey on Sunday, March 26, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. Lorraine is lovingly remembered by her brother, Dr. Leonard Cooper of Guelph, ON, and by numerous relatives in the Edmonton area. She was predeceased by her parents Ruth and Alex Cooper of Calgary. Her first love in life was flying, obtaining both her private and commercial pilot licenses before the age of nineteen. As one of the youngest women pilots in Canada, she formed the first Canadian Chapter of the Ninety-Niners, an international association of women pilots formed by Amelia Earheart. Due to her contribution to women in aviation she was honoured as a charter member of the Women’s Western Air Museum in Regina. Lorraine’s enthusiasm for adventure and travel inspired a career change and move to the United States, where she was Vice-President of Hawaii Visitor’s Bureau – Pacific Tourism Marketing and Research. She then joined the management team of American Express new Space Bank system and later the Association of artificial Intelligence. Lorraine returned to Canada to open her own consulting firm in Victoria – Cooper Marketing Meeting. In 1995 she returned home to be with her family in Calgary and became actively involved in volunteer work with the forest Grove Care Centre, P.A.L.S., and the Calgary zoo where she volunteered as an Education Docent, and Living Collections volunteer. A Celebration of Lorraine’s Life will be held at a later date.
