Obituary of Donald William Deines

Mr. Donald William Deines of Calgary passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at the age of 82 years. Don was born, raised, and educated in Calgary. He was employed with Crown Trust, James Richardson and Sons and retired from the Royal Bank of Canada after thirty years of service. Highlights of Don’s life included being the First Scout Leader of the Crippled Children’s Hospital and founder of the Model Aeronautics Association Club in 1947, member of the Stampede Model Aeroplane Club, past member of the P.P.C.L.I. Officers Mess. Don also served with the R.C.A.F. 403 Squadron and was a member of the Air Force Association of Canada (783) Calgary Wing, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #285, the Aerospace Museum of Calgary, as well as a member of the Calgary Quarter Century Club of Aviation. Don always had a positive outlook on life and every illness was met as “another challenge.” He lived one day at a time. His fondest memories were those of family and friends, summers spent in Summerland, trailering, cruising and travelling, as well as building and flying his model airplanes. Don created a lifetime full of memories. Don is survived by his devoted, loving wife and best friend of fifty-four years, Dorothy (nee Ward); son Terry of Vancouver; his daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Eric Konecsni; granddaughter Torey, all of Toronto; his sister and brother-in-law Doreen and Lou Ballak; his sister-in-law Wynne Deines; as well as his niece Susan (Andy) Kolankowski, all of Calgary. Don was predeceased by his brother Everett.
