Obituary of Patrick Scholefield

It is with great sadness that his family announces the death of Patrick Scholefield on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at the Foothills Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife Val, his son Rob, daughter Debbie, sister Maureen Wills and her daughter Kathy (Ged) and his brother-in-law David Seaton (Margaret). He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Frank Wills. Born in Bishopthorpe England in 1939 to Arthur and Kathleen Scholefield, Patrick immigrated to Canada in 1966. He practised his electrical trade while attending the University of Calgary where he obtained his BSc (Honours) in 1974. After completing his studies, Patrick worked with the University of Calgary’s Entomology Department and ended his career with Alberta Environment. Patrick was involved in Scouting for most of his life, as a participant, trainer and leader and more recently with the BP Guild. He has been honoured with many awards for his contributions to the Scout movement. Devoted to his family and close friends, Patrick was an incredibly giving person whose warm and gentle nature endeared him to others. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours bird watching and photographing the wonders of nature. He and Val were fortunate to have been able to travel extensively in recent years and their many destinations included Australia, Europe, the UK and Africa. A computer whiz, Patrick used his expertise to assist several charitable organizations including the Frank Wills Memorial Society, The William Watson Lodge Society and the Calgary Field Naturalists’ Society as well as his less technologically savvy wife and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A Celebration of Patricks’s Life will take place on Monday, March 20, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. at the Frank Wills Memorial Hall, 405 First Street East, Cochrane. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the William Watson Lodge Society, c/o Donna Fox, 21 Welch Crescent, Okotoks, AB. T1S 1H2 or the World Wildlife Fund.
