Obituary of Arthur Steele

Arthur Steele of Calgary passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at the age of 91 years. Arthur was born on July 21, 1914 in Lincoln, England. He came to Canada at the youthful age of 16 and lived in Middleton and New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, until 1996 when he moved to Calgary with his wife Rhoda. During his forty-six years in Middleton, Arthur was the esteemed organist and choir director of the Middleton United Church and, career-wise, rose to become President of TRA Wholesalers Ltd., later acquired by Sobeys. Arthur is survived by his first wife Marguerite; his son and daughter-in-law John and Neleta, and their sons, Bren (Julie) and Jay (Carol); his step-son Don (Joan) MacGregor, and their son Scott(Trudy Ann), and daughter Allison, all of Calgary; his stepdaughter Anne (Gene) Beitz, and their daughters, Cheryl (Ed) Clough, and Sharon (Aaron) Pawlachuk, all of Athabasca; sister-in-law Bertha Fraser of Halifax; brother-in-law Wilbert (Marjorie) MacDonald of Pictou; twelve great-grandchildren; as well as a niece Pat (Rob) Thorne and their daughters, Stephanie and Emma of Derby, England. Arthur was predeceased by his second wife Rhoda; his parents, Frank and Dorothy; and his brother and sister-in-law Wally and Simone. A Celebration of Arthur’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, March 17, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev.
