Elsie Mitchell

Obituary of Elsie Barbara Mitchell

Elsie Mitchell of Calgary passed away on Friday, March 10, 2006, six weeks short of her 94th birthday. Elsie will be sadly missed by her loving daughter Barbara McNeil, son-in-law Grant McNeil, and adored grandsons Scott and Evan McNeil, all of Calgary. She is also survived by her husband of fifty-six years Andrew Mitchell of Calgary. Although they lived apart for many of those years, Elsie and Andy always remained close and caring friends. All of Elsie’s siblings (nine brothers and two sisters) predeceased her. Elsie was born on April 21, 1912 on the family farm near Meaford, ON, the ninth of twelve children in the blended family of Daniel and Matilda Ormsby. At the age of eighteen she left her country home for the big city lights of Toronto where she resided for the next sixty years. Some of Elsie’s fondest memories were of summers spent working at some of the grand old resorts in the Muskoka area of Ontario where she first met Andy. In 1990 she relocated to Calgary to be near Barbara and her family. She treasured the years she had watching her grandsons grow. At Elsie’s request there will be no service. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Elsie’s name may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th St. N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca.
