Obituary of Irene Korns

Irene Korns of Calgary passed away peacefully on Monday, March 6, 2006 at the age of 86 years. Irene was born in Riga, Latvia and attended the University of Latvia. She immigrated to Canada in 1950 to join her husband Edwin who had come out earlier to make a home for them. Irene was accompanied by her two young children Klaus and Gunta Anna. Her youngest daughter Ruth was born in Canada in the home Edwin built for the family. Irene went to work at Eaton’s department store, first in maintenance and later, after obtaining many educational credits, in the order processing department. She enjoyed working for more than twenty-five years at Eaton’s. Irene is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Klaus and Dilene Korns; two daughters and sons-in-law Gunta Anna and Mike Witwicki and Ruth and Steven Helton; grandchildren Leanna and Andrew Arida and Kristen Korns; great-grandson Jude Arida; a cousin Sigried Ratchko in Germany; and many extended family in Latvia and Russia.
