Obituary of Leonard John Simes

Leonard John Simes, of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital after a brief illness, on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at the age of 75 years. Leonard was born on July 3, 1930 in Tadmore, SK and grew up in the town of Sturgis. In 1952, Leonard and his new wife Jessie moved from Saskatchewan and would come to call Calgary home. They shared a wonderful fifty years together until Jessie’s passing in 2002. Leonard worked for Burns and Dutton, now Cana Construction, until his retirement. Dad had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to tell stories. His storytelling will be remembered by his family and friends alike. Leonard is survived by his children, Norine (Doug) Perret of Medicine Hat, Denise (Dennis) Akhurst, and Brenda Thomson all of Calgary; three grandchildren, Tina, Tammy (Jason), and Nicci; five great-grandchildren, Tana, Blake, AvreÚ, Harrison and Rowan. Leonard is also survived by two sisters, Betty Schmalenberg and Floydey (Don) Wooley; three brothers, James (Sonia) Simes, Kelly (Dorothy) Simes, and Bill (Bea) Simes. Leonard was pre-deceased by his wife Jessie, grandson Christopher, brother Lawrence Simes, and sister Marie Lundeen.
