Howard Orchard

Obituary of Howard Jeremiah Orchard

Howard Orchard passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Friday, March 3, 2006 at the Rockyview General Hospital at the age of 80. He was born in Vulcan, AB, to Max and Elizabeth Orchard as one of twelve children. His schooling started in Vulcan as a boy and continued in Calgary where he took his training for his lifelong career in accounting. Howard’s work started with banking in Vulcan, then on to bookkeeping at the Atlas Coal Mine in East Coulee. From there, he moved his mother, sister Eileen and himself to Calgary where he went to work for Shell Oil and eventually to Westburne, where he retired at 63 years old. The most admirable part of Howard’s life was that he looked after his mother with his sister Eileen for many years, and was a great provider. Well done Howard! Howard is survived by his sister Evelyn (Ernie) Shire; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Howard was predeceased by his brothers, Don, Mike, Jim and Lawrence; and sisters, Lucille, Gertrude and Eileen Orchard, Julia McAlister, Kay Chapman, and Angie Brough.
