Obituary of Baker – Johnson

Rondi Lee Baker-Johnson of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 with her parents by her side, after an eleven month battle with leukemia, at the age of 19 years. Rondi had an amazing life, she was born in Edson, AB and has lived and travelled the world. Rondi lived in Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, numerous places in Alberta and has travelled to China, Thailand, Australia, Britain, Myanmar, the United States, Singapore, and across Canada, and for the past three years has lived in Calgary. She loved helping others, whether volunteering with the Special Olympics, starve-a-thons for world hunger or at the Tolong Anak-Anak Orphanage in Jakarta, Indonesia. Rondi was fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and in sign language, which helped her help others. Rondi’s ambition, formed particularly over the past year, was to become a nurse and help young cancer patients as she would have been able to relate so well to the challenges, fears, pain and hope they experience. Her family is so proud of how strong and brave she has been through her battle, and how she maintained a tenacious approach to dealing with cancer. Besides her parents, Luann and Mel, Rondi is survived by her brothers and sisters, Wesley, Nikki, Shanta, Torin and Tamara; her grandparents, Bruce and Freda Baker; her aunts, uncles and cousins, Laurie, Niels, Erik and Anna Jacobsen, all of Whitehorse, YT; Laura, Pierre, Marc and Lynne Laporte, all of Ottawa, ON and Lynne and Marc Aube, of Toronto, ON; as well as an expansive extended family and an awesome support network around the world. We are so thankful for the support and care provided by the people on Unit 57 at the Foothills medical Centre – the doctors, nurses, PCAs, housekeepers, they were all there for Rondi.
