Obituary of Emil Torok

Emil Torok, beloved husband of Alice of Calgary passed away at home on Monday, February 27, 2006, surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer, at the age of 80 years. Emil was born in Kirald, Hungary on February 28, 1925 and spend his years growing up in Kispest, which is a suburb of Budapest. He and his family left Hungary in 1956 during the Hungarian uprising and settled in London, England. In 1959, they moved and settled in Calgary where Emil continued his trade as a talented tool and die maker. He had a career with Renn Industries for twenty-five years; retiring as plant manager. During his retirement, he continued to work with his hands and spent many years rebuilding his prized 1962 Triumph Spitfire, in which he drew much attention through the streets of Calgary. Emil also became very involved in the senior’s Olympics as a cyclist – winning numerous medals regionally and provincially. In addition to his wife Alice, Emil is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law Aranka and Tom; grandchildren Monica and Michael; and great-granddaughter Nerissa, all of Calgary. He is also survived by his brothers, Zoli, Gyula and Laci; sister Ica; niece Dora and her husband Pisti and their daughter Barbara, all of Budapest. Emil was predeceased by his parents, Gyula and Etel. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, March 3, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. with the Chaplain Carol Barwick, Presider. The family would like to express their gratitude to all the caregivers that assisted with Emil’s final journey over the past months, and particularly June and Nishma of Home-Care, as well as Dr. Avis Boyar for their wonderful care and compassion.
