Donald Manson

Obituary of Donald Manson

Donald Manson will be greatly missed. A loving father and grandfather, Petroleum Landman, avid golfer, cut-throat gin player, and exceptional friend, Don was known throughout Calgary as a true gentleman. As an active member of the community, Don fulfilled many roles: President of one of his favourite hang-outs, the 400 Club; Little League organizer and umpire; member of the Board of Managers for Grace Presbyterian Church; and a good friend of Bill W. for twenty-seven years. Born in Edmonton in 1930, the youngest of four children, Don arrived in Calgary in the late 1950’s to participate in the burgeoning oil and gas industry. As an independent Landman, Don became an expert in freehold mineral leases and his enthusiasm for his work permeated the industry. Don’s high ethical standards were truly inspirational. Predeceased by his beloved wife Carole Manson, Don is survived by his four children, Scott, Jean and Fraser Manson and Cathryn Bailly; their spouses Bob Bailly and Danielle Dore; his step-children, Geoff Smith and Jessica Abt; and their spouses, Alex Smith and Edward Abt. He was the proud and much-loved “Bump” to twelve grandkids: Ariel, Dylan, Kelly, Leah, David, Jenny, Jason, Christopher, Tanya, Natasha, Sarah, and Nicole. Funeral Services will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church (1009 – 15th Avenue S.W.) on Friday, February 24, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception in the “West Room” at the Glencoe Club (636 – 29 Avenue S.W.)
